Monal Restaurant, Islamabad, to close on September 11th as per Supreme Court order. End of an era for the iconic eatery.
Islamabad's iconic Monal restaurant has announced its impending closure in compliance with a Supreme Court directive. The restaurant, renowned for its panoramic views and delectable cuisine, will cease operations on September 11, 2024.
In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Monal expressed gratitude towards its patrons for their unwavering support over the years. "It's time to say goodbye," the statement read. "As per the honorable Supreme Court's directions, we will close on September 11, 2024."
The Supreme Court, on June 11, ordered the closure of all restaurants operating within national parks, including Monal, which is nestled in the scenic Margalla Hills National Park. The court emphasized the importance of preserving the ecological integrity of national parks and deemed commercial activities incompatible with their protected status.
While acknowledging the challenges faced by businesses operating within the park, the court stressed the need to prioritize environmental conservation. It remains to be seen how the closure of Monal and other restaurants will impact the local economy and tourism.
The restaurant's closure marks the end of an era for Islamabad, as Monal had become synonymous with the city's skyline and a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
